3 Field School opportunities

All CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY program are OPEN to UNDERGRADUATE and GRADUATE STUDENTS from CONCORDIA and OTHER UNIVERSITIES to participate.

FIELD SCHOOL to Manizales, COLOMBIA 2020. [3 credits]

Dr. Ricardo Dal Farra, a professor teaching electronic/media art and music/sound art in the Faculty of Fine Arts of Concordia University will offer students from a variety of fine arts, as well as science, philosophy, engineering, and communication backgrounds, an opportunity to work on self-proposed research-creation projects, to attend and participate of an international conference on art + science and technology, and experience the city of Manizales, Colombia on June 2020. Manizales is a city in the mountainous coffee-growing region of western Colombia. It’s known for its cultural events, steep streets and views of the nearby Nevado del Ruiz volcano.

Students will also attend and present at the widely recognized International Image Festival. Since 1997, this Festival has been addressing cutting-edge areas of interest with social impact, in multiple fields. Media art leaders, from all over the world, have been participating in its 18 editions. FIELD SCHOOL – ISEA2020 @ Montreal [3 credits]

Dr. Ricardo Dal Farra, a professor teaching electronic/media art and music/sound art in the Faculty of Fine Arts, will offer undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of fine arts backgrounds, as well as science, engineering, philosophy, and communication, an opportunity to work on self-proposed research-creation projects, and to attend one of the leading conferences on electronic arts in the world.

This intensive summer field school is organized around the programming of the International Symposium of Electronic Arts – ISEA2020. The field school will expose students to national and international media and electronic arts creation. The program will facilitate encounters between the students, the artists and their research and artistic production.

ISEA has been held 25 times, in countries all around the world, from The Netherlands in 1988, 1990 and 1996, to Japan in 2002, Australia in 1992 and 2013, Turkey in 2011, South Africa in 2018, the US in 1993, 1997, 2006 and 2012, Dubai in 2014, Colombia in 2017, and South Korea in 2019, among other editions. Field School to CMMAS @ Morelia – MEXICO [3 credits]

Dr. Ricardo Dal Farra, a professor teaching music/sound arts and electronic/media arts in the Faculty of Fine Arts, will offer students from a variety of fine arts backgrounds, as well as science, engineering, and communication, an opportunity to work on self-proposed research and creation projects, to attend workshops and seminars, to receive individual feedback on their creative work, and to present their artistic work in a concert at the Mexican Centre for Music and Sound Art – CMMAS.

Students will take advantage of Morelia, in Mexico, and will seek inspiration from its surroundings, history, contemporary life, people, and places for their individual projects. While you will be immersed in Mexico’s cultures, stories, architecture, intensity, speed, and beauty, you will also attend research-creation and cultural activities mostly at CMMAS and UNAM, the internationally known Autonomous National University of Mexico (originally established in 1551, UNAM has around 350,000 students in 12 campuses).
