The Transhumants 3 installation does not emerge from science, nor from any form of fiction. It does not address the bourgeoisie, the proletariat, or the middle class. It neither disseminates discourse on climate change nor dwells on the scars left by the Anthropocene. It offers no warning against technological excess or political threat. Preferring shortsightedness to blind spots, it refuses reassurance. Its cinema is simply austere.
This third iteration of The Transhumants series migrates certain images from the two previous versions into a new cinematic dispositif, where they now animate a dialogue between two screens. The same twilight atmosphere returns, one in which the movements of a collective wandering remain without resolution or destination.
Authors
Jean Dubois explores the new artistic possibilities of digital imaging, whether still, moving, or interactive. His work focuses particularly on the relationships these images establish with embodied interfaces, random structures, site-specific integration, and textuality. He teaches at the School of Visual and Media Arts at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and currently serves as co-director of the international research-creation network Hexagram.
Guillaume Pascaleinvestigates the unstable and speculative nature of information technologies. He creates anticipatory works that combine audiovisual production, programming, robotics, graphic environments, and sound creation. His visual research examines, among other things, the perception of the terrestrial environment as shaped by the conditions suggested by digital environments and by contemporary image-making practices.
