This project is a continuation of Mathieu&#8217;s research-creation, initiated in October 2021 under the supervision of professor Yan Breuleux [coinvestigator member, NAD-UQAC] in the Master&#8217;s program in art and digital design (NAD-UQAC).<\/p>\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Eb0dc0b0aEs\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The immersive experience <em>L&#8217;architecture des souvenirs<\/em> offers a journey through virtual spaces that reinterpret actual lived experiences, transforming reality into an artistic exploration of memory. Memories composed of everyday spaces, people and objects are put into volume using different volumetric capture processes, and then assembled as a volumetric archive within the game-engine Unity. Referring to the notions of &#8220;atopia&#8221; (Roland Barthes, 1995) and &#8220;drift&#8221; (Guy Debord, 1956), Mathieu DeBlois explores virtual space as a potential realm where reality and imagination merge to create a new sensory experience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"sketchfab-embed-wrapper\"> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Vieux Nice\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" mozallowfullscreen=\"true\" webkitallowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; xr-spatial-tracking\" xr-spatial-tracking=\"\" execution-while-out-of-viewport=\"\" execution-while-not-rendered=\"\" web-share=\"\" width=\"1050\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/sketchfab.com\/models\/0b5bf863e1c5473587ab6541b750aded\/embed?autostart=1\"> <\/iframe><p style=\"font-size: 13px; font-weight: normal; margin: 5px; color: #4A4A4A;\">Captation LiDAR prise dans le Vieux-Nice<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The project employed a variety of three-dimensional capture techniques, including the LiDAR sensor, built into the latest iPhones. This technique is particularly relevant to the project&#8217;s research, as it allows for live or spontaneous volume capture.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hexagram.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/DEMO30_001-2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"431\" data-id=\"19509\" src=\"https:\/\/hexagram.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/DEMO30_001-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19509\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hexagram.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/DEMO30_002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" data-id=\"19479\" src=\"http:\/\/hexagram.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/DEMO30_002.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19479\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Mathieu also opted for a method that consists in using Google Maps satellite images to reappropriate them geometrically. Specifically, this technique involves the use of the &#8220;Maps Model Importer&#8221; tool developed by Elie Michel, which allowed him to capture the volume of any site found through the satellite view in Google Maps. The collaboration between Mathieu and Philippe was crucial to the installation, thanks to the latter&#8217;s original sound composition. Philippe created moving melodies incorporating audio fragments recorded by Mathieu during the 3D capture of the sites. Algorithms programmed on Max\/MSP by Philippe allowed for the music&#8217;s spatialization, while emotional and narrative research methods helped create a symbiosis between the visuals and the melodies. Furthermore, to create an immersive experience for the audience, Philippe adapted his piece for a 6.2 sound installation, with the speakers placed around the viewing area of the projection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/86ogKZR14lQ\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><p style=\"font-size: 13px; font-weight: normal; margin: 5px; color: #4A4A4A;\">D\u00e9mo pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 au NAD le 28 avril 2022, cr\u00e9dit vid\u00e9o: Yan Breuleux<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of interactivity, programmer Romain Salha contributed to the creation of scripts in Unity to allow the manipulation of certain audiovisual components in real time. By incorporating these elements, the work acknowledges that reality can be altered over time, that memories and emotions associated with spaces can be unexpected and unanticipated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uk-card uk-card-body uk-padding-large\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center; color: #ffffff;\"><b>Biography<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><b>Mathieu DeBlois<\/b> is a master&#8217;s student in volumetric cinema at the School of Digital Arts, Animation and Design of the Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Chicoutimi (NAD-UQAC) and a student member of the Hexagram Network. Mathieu conceptualizes and creates narrative dimensions through the use of immersive technologies. He is currently doing a research-creation on volumetric cinema using XR and is interested in the environment&#8217;s role in the production of narrative elements.
