Last fall, Hexagram co-investigators working within the GRMS successfully presented their works in Austria. They will welcome their Austrian counterparts for a series of concerts and a conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>An Interinstitutional Contingent in Vienna and Linz<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>From October 17 to 21, 2024, GRMS members gave four concerts in two cities and conducted a master class. In Vienna, they were hosted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/theacousmaticproject.at\/en\/about\/\">Vienna Acousmatic Project<\/a>, which promotes acousmatic music. As part of the <em>Echoes Around Me<\/em> 2024 festival, they presented their creations supported by the Vienna Acousmonium, a sophisticated orchestra of loudspeakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Linz, they collaborated with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bruckneruni.ac.at\/en\/about\/the-university\/institutes\/composition-conducting-and-computer-music\">Institute for Composition, Conducting, and Computer Music<\/a> (IKD) at the Anton Bruckner University, strengthening interinstitutional ties around contemporary composition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professors  Philippe-Aubert Gauthier, Simon-Pierre Gourd, and \u00c9ric L\u00e9tourneau, along with student members and colleagues from Concordia University Sandeep Bhagwati and Ricardo Dal Farra, and partner CMMAS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmmas.org\/\">Centro Mexicano para la Musica y las Artes Sonoras<\/a> (CMMAS), formed a contingent of 10 people to present their sound research.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/hexagram.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/grms_autriche_800px.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18592\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Austria Honoured at La Grande \u00c9coute<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To follow up on this Quebec presence, Austrian composers Martina Claussen, Katharina Klement, Enrique Mendoza, Jakob Schauer, Thomas Gorbach, and Volkmar Klien will participate in the GRMS series La Grande \u00c9coute. This series is organized as part of the Festival Montr\u00e9al\/Nouvelles Musiques by the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de musique contemporaine du Qu\u00e9bec (SMCQ) and supported by Hexagram-UQAM. It will take place from February 21 to March 1, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The international guests will contribute to the conference <a href=\"https:\/\/smcq.qc.ca\/smcq\/fr\/evenement\/46751-les-images-de-la-musique\">Images of Music<\/a> and offer performances during <a href=\"https:\/\/smcq.qc.ca\/smcq\/fr\/evenement\/46749-la-grande-nuit-2025\">La Grande Nuit on March 1, 2025<\/a>, as part of Montreal\u2019s Nuit blanche. A sound and visual installation by Katharina Klement will also be presented at the Chaufferie of the Agora du C\u0153ur des sciences at UQAM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>The GRMS<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of the Groupe de recherche sur la m\u00e9diatisation du son (GRMS), affiliated with the School of Media at the Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al, explore the relationships between the production, transmission, and phenomenologies of sound. They aim to comprehensively understand the reality of sound in its various aspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their mission is to study the heuristic value and functions of sound in different contexts, including social, media, artistic, and utilitarian manifestations.
