LUDODROME invites you to an evening of conversation and PLAY on May 15th at the SAT\u2019s downstairs space, featuring an inspiring collection of 40 experimental games. The event is the result of a collaboration between co-investigator members, their research chairs, and research centres, across the Hexagram Network.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Montr\u00e9al boasts a strong ecosystem supporting games as an industry (MIGS, La Guilde, Zone Indie, etc.), there are few spaces that celebrate games for their artistic, innovative, and critical approaches\u2014whether commercial or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2018, the Mount-Royal Games Society closed its doors after nearly eight years of vibrant meet-ups, and FLOP suspended its activities in 2020. Since then, apart from a handful of art game exhibitions like Sporobole\u2019s in 2022, opportunities to showcase experimental games have been scarce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what happened to that energy? What\u2019s the state of experimental games in Montr\u00e9al today? And what do we even mean by \u201cexperimental games\u201d now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re on the hunt for exciting games wherever they emerge\u2014solo projects, indie and artist studios, and university research-creation initiatives. We want to highlight local games driven by an experimental impulse, exploring new, bold, and eccentric mechanics, narratives, aesthetics, and formats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
