With nearly 40 participants, the symposium is a unique opportunity for graduate students to partake in critical discussions on practice, research and media in their different forms, as these structures develop and are questioned.

The new specialists have an important voice to be heard in these debates because they are both at the heart of discussion and the future of it, as they question disciplinary boundaries, shared values and established definitions, and redefine the goals and horizons of research and practice in creation, both within and outside institutions. Through the dialogues it will generate, the symposium will allow identifying the emerging movements and directions towards the future avenues for research and media arts practice.

The Symposium team is composed of students from the four Montreal universities, under the responsibility of Cécile Martin, master of architecture, and doctoral student at Concordia University.

As indicated in the subtitle of Re-Create 2015, the Emerging Researchers’ Symposium will discuss theories, methods and research-creation practices in the history of art, science and media technologies. The Explorations Space diversifies the presentation formats in their methodologies and research questions, ranging in nature from the theoretical, historical to creative practices in the form of video presentations, prototypes, interactive media and posters.

During Re-Create 2015, the International Conference on the Histories of Media Art, Science and Technology will award a scholarship to the best student presentation in the Symposium. The recipient will be awarded $ 1,000 to support his/her research. This award is generously donated by the Leonardo / International Society for the Arts, Sciences and Technology (Leonardo / ISAST), the Leonardo Book Series and MIT Press (publisher of Relive: Media Art Histories).

Re-Create 2015 blog

      Bridge event

            Nina Czegledy, University of Toronto

            UQAM
November 5th 2015

The Bridge panel session will link the topics and questions arisen from the presentations and summaries of the Emerging Researchers’ Symposium with the program of the Media Art Histories’ conference. He is Associate Professor of the Music Department at Concordia University.
concordia.ca/ricardo-dal-farra

Listening station
Chaufferie, Cœur des Sciences, UQAM
175, avenue du Président-Kennedy
November 5 – 8, 10h-17h

            Exhibition photographs

      Video documentation

      Press review

07.16 – Re-Create: La recherche création en acte – Archée.
