de son corps en entier gr\u00e2ce au soutien de Z\u00fa Montreal avec V\u00e9ronique Levert et Ricardo Morejon, en collaboration avec l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 Concordia. Ce fut une excellente occasion d&rsquo;apprendre \u00e0 collaborer avec Keely Whitelaw, artiste a\u00e9rienne et \u00e9tudiante en doctorat en recherche-cr\u00e9ation pour cr\u00e9er une capture non conventionnelle sur une plateforme a\u00e9rienne qui \u00e9tait constamment en mouvement. Travailler avec Keely \u00e9tait une nouveaut\u00e9 et sa contribution, \u00e0 la fois cr\u00e9ative et conceptuelle, a permis \u00e0 Olivia de complexifier la composante RV de son projet de th\u00e8se.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Son projet de recherche-cr\u00e9ation doctorale <em>Virtual ISLANDs<\/em> explore la relation entre l&rsquo;exp\u00e9rience de l&rsquo;immersion virtuelle dans la RV et la physicalit\u00e9 de la submersion en offrant aux spectateurs des interpr\u00e9tations audiovisuelles du flux et du reflux de l&rsquo;eau autour d&rsquo;eux. L&rsquo;installation comprenait la nouvelle version de l&rsquo;exp\u00e9rience RV, une composition sonore de Jack Hyde et des banni\u00e8res imprim\u00e9es cr\u00e9\u00e9es en collaboration avec Julien Villeneuve. Kasey a adapt\u00e9 leur composition sonore, cr\u00e9\u00e9e en 2020 pour une version pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente de l&rsquo;exp\u00e9rience de r\u00e9alit\u00e9 virtuelle, en une installation sonore 4.1.4, immergeant les spectateurs de la RV de mani\u00e8re sonore gr\u00e2ce au placement judicieux des haut-parleurs autour de l&rsquo;aire de RV.&nbsp; Cette \u0153uvre a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9e sur une structure a\u00e9rienne au sol. Ceci leur a permis d&rsquo;enregistrer une chor\u00e9graphie \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide du dernier syst\u00e8me de cam\u00e9ra \u00e0 10 capteurs de profondeur de Depthkit, gr\u00e2ce au soutien de Z\u00fa Montreal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En travaillant avec le moteur de jeu vid\u00e9o Unity 3d pour la cr\u00e9ation VR depuis 2017, elle a pu exp\u00e9rimenter diff\u00e9rentes techniques pour cr\u00e9er une sc\u00e8ne ambigu\u00eb par la combinaison de vid\u00e9os 360, de mod\u00e8les 3d et de shaders (programmes informatiques au sein du moteur de jeu). Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ces techniques, elle d\u00e9forme des s\u00e9quences d&rsquo;images fixes, elles-m\u00eames extraites de s\u00e9quences vid\u00e9o. Dans la version actuelle de son projet, elle travaille avec la capture volum\u00e9trique et d&rsquo;autres effets visuels 3d, ce qui lui permet de se transformer en points ou en petites particules. (Unity 3d HDRP en combinaison avec les plugins Unity de Depthkit pour le graphique VFX).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans la RV, la performance volum\u00e9trique de Keely, pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e sous la forme d&rsquo;un ensemble de particules en mouvement, est une invitation \u00e0 r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir aux aspects des *questions de recherche plus vastes de son projet, bien que cette oeuvre soit cr\u00e9\u00e9e \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al avec des collaborateurs provenant de divers espaces en dehors des Cara\u00efbes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. La rencontre avec un corps virtuel qui entre et sort de la vue dans la RV peut-elle aborder la question de la repr\u00e9sentation du soi et de l&rsquo;autre dans l&rsquo;espace virtuel ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. La RV en tant que projet artistique et exp\u00e9rientiel, par opposition \u00e0 la RV dirig\u00e9e par la narration, peut-elle sugg\u00e9rer une approche diff\u00e9rente des hypoth\u00e8ses techno-solutionnistes \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u0153uvre, et que se passe-t-il lorsque la RV est \u00e9voqu\u00e9e comme une machine \u00e0 empathie pour aborder les questions d&rsquo;identit\u00e9 et d&rsquo;<em>embodiement<\/em>? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. RECHERCHE-CR\u00c9ATION DE OLIVIA <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size\">Motiv\u00e9 par la question \u00ab\u00a0\u00e0 quoi peut ressembler un futur carib\u00e9en ?\u00a0\u00bb (Pearce, 2015), le projet de recherche-cr\u00e9ation d&rsquo;Olivia s\u2019int\u00e9resse \u00e0 la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 virtuelle en tant qu\u2019outil d\u00e9colonial (Tuck et Yang, 2012) \u00e0 travers la notion de \u201cfuturs carib\u00e9ens\u201d. Virtual ISLANDS combine une th\u00e8se \u00e9crite et une installation de r\u00e9alit\u00e9 virtuelle et vid\u00e9o liant les \u201cfuturs carib\u00e9ens\u201d aux possibilit\u00e9s de la submersion comme posture postcoloniale au sein des pratiques de RV. Ancr\u00e9e dans les histoires violentes de la traite transatlantique des esclaves, sa th\u00e8se juxtapose les histoires de l&rsquo;art de l&rsquo;Atlantique noir (Gilroy, 1993) \u00e0 la formulation \u201ctidalectique\u201d (Brathwaite, 1999) de l&rsquo;eau comme espace historique au sein duquel s\u2019ancre la RV. Pour contrer l&rsquo;influence occidentale de la dialectique h\u00e9g\u00e9lienne th\u00e8se\/ antith\u00e8se\/synth\u00e8se, Brathwaite propose une po\u00e9tique des mar\u00e9es, ou tidalectique, o\u00f9 le flux et le reflux constants des mar\u00e9es autour des \u00eeles des Cara\u00efbes sont constitutifs du cadre philosophique des identit\u00e9s carib\u00e9ennes. S&rsquo;inspirant des histoires submerg\u00e9es du Passage du Milieu, o\u00f9 une grande partie des archives se trouve sous la mer, ce projet invite \u00e0 une lecture des pratiques de RV en tant que cr\u00e9ation esth\u00e9tique\/artistique mettant en avant l\u2019exp\u00e9rience de submersion plut\u00f4t que celle de l&rsquo;immersion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size\">Cette \u0153uvre d&rsquo;art exp\u00e9rientielle combine une s\u00e9rie d&rsquo;autoportraits volum\u00e9triques avec une composition sonore du compositeur \u00e9lectroacoustique <b>Kasey Pocius<\/b>. Virtual ISLANDs perturbe les utilisations conventionnelles de la technologie de capture volum\u00e9trique pour repr\u00e9senter la r\u00e9ponse gestuelle \u00e0 l\u2019exp\u00e9rience virtuelle d&rsquo;\u00eatre sous l&rsquo;eau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hexagram.uqam.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/DEMO\/DEMO1\/logos.png\" alt=\"  \"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull editor:no-inserter ext-py-lg ext ext-my-0 has-white-color has-text-color has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\" style=\"background:linear-gradient(220deg,rgb(238,238,238) 0%,rgb(85,85,85) 100%)\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-medium-font-size\">Artiste multim\u00e9dia engag\u00e9e dans les questions identitaires, <a href=\"https:\/\/oliviamcgilchrist.com\/\">Olivia<\/a> a grandi en Jama\u00efque, au Royaume-Uni et en France en tant que franco-jama\u00efcaine blanche. S&rsquo;appuyant sur des recherches sur le r\u00f4le central de l&rsquo;eau dans les cultures des Cara\u00efbes, mon projet est \u00e9clair\u00e9 par l\u2019histoire violente de l&rsquo;esclavage transatlantique et de la modernit\u00e9 atlantique, dans le cadre de la notion d'\u00a0\u00bbAtlantique noir\u00a0\u00bb de Paul Gilroy.
