Les deux premi\u00e8res \u0153uvres de la s\u00e9rie <em>(Uchronie &amp; Pan\u00e9goptique)<\/em> ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es les 5 et 6 d\u00e9cembre 2024 lors d\u2019une sortie de r\u00e9sidence publique \u00e0 la salle d\u2019exp\u00e9rimentation d\u2019Hexagram-UQAM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jean-Philippe est doctorant au programme d\u2019\u00e9tudes et pratique des arts de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al (UQAM). Ses travaux de recherche sur l\u2019utilisation de mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9s technor\u00e9siduelles dans un contexte de cr\u00e9ation artistique sont dirig\u00e9s par Louis-Claude Paquin [cochercheur, UQAM].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"414\" src=\"https:\/\/hexagram.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/02-AB-14-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18735\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><sup>Affiche de l\u2019exposition.<\/sup><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">D\u00e9marche<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Nombre d\u2019objets deviennent d\u00e9suets avant m\u00eame d\u2019\u00eatre inutiles. Dans ce cas, l\u2019usure du temps ne se manifeste pas tant par une d\u00e9gradation physique, mais plut\u00f4t par un changement de la culture \u00e0 laquelle l\u2019objet appartient. C\u2019est dans cette fen\u00eatre temporelle entre d\u00e9su\u00e9tude et inutilit\u00e9 que s\u2019inscrit le travail de Jean-Philippe C\u00f4t\u00e9. \u00ab\u2009<em>Le d\u00e9calage entre la pertinence d\u2019alors et l\u2019impertinence d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui constitue une zone de tension que j\u2019ai beaucoup de plaisir \u00e0 explorer<\/em>\u2009\u00bb, dira-t-il. \u00c0 travers ses recherches et cr\u00e9ations, il d\u00e9veloppe une certaine intimit\u00e9 avec ces machines qui l\u2019inspirent et, par extension, avec ceux et celles qui les ont cr\u00e9\u00e9es. Ces appareils construisent en lui une vision du monde qui favorise leur compr\u00e9hension. Paradoxalement, c\u2019est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment ce qui semble donner un caract\u00e8re exotique \u00e0 son travail pour les personnes qui d\u00e9couvrent celui-ci.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On pourrait sentir, dans son travail, les effets de la nostalgie. Cela n\u2019est vrai que si l\u2019on consid\u00e8re la nostalgie comme \u00ab\u2009<em>une fa\u00e7on de transformer le pass\u00e9 par l\u2019imagination<\/em>\u2009\u00bb (Niemeyer, 2014) [Traduction libre]. Dans son travail, le rebut technor\u00e9siduel devient le point de d\u00e9part d\u2019une exploration mat\u00e9rielle des potentiels de po\u00e9tisation. Sa d\u00e9marche est non lin\u00e9aire et ax\u00e9e sur une heuristique de la s\u00e9rendipit\u00e9 mat\u00e9rielle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Comme pour plusieurs \u0153uvres ant\u00e9rieures, \u00c9gobsolescence s\u2019int\u00e9resse au visage et \u00e0 son autom\u00e9diation. Plus sp\u00e9cifiquement, la perspective est sociotechnique et politique. Elle r\u00e9v\u00e8le des facettes de ce que Zuboff appelle l\u2019\u00e9conomie de la surveillance (2019) en convoquant des techniques politiquement charg\u00e9es comme celles de la biom\u00e9trie ou de l\u2019intelligence artificielle. Cr\u00e9dit&nbsp;: Adil Boukind.<\/sup><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Pan\u00e9goptique est une installation interactive qui fusionne dynamiquement les visages de deux interacteur\u00b7ice\u00b7s pour cr\u00e9er des \u00eatres hybrides et imaginaires \u00e0 l\u2019intersection de la familiarit\u00e9 et de l\u2019alt\u00e9rit\u00e9. En m\u00e9langeant texture, couleur et topologie, elle cr\u00e9e des portraits d\u00e9stabilisants qui invitent \u00e0 discuter de la m\u00e9diation de notre image de soi par la technologie, par la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 ainsi que par notre vanit\u00e9 et nos peurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pane\u0301goptique\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/1043975097?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019installation elle-m\u00eame est un assemblage sculptural de 13&nbsp;iPhones obsol\u00e8tes. L\u2019utilisation d\u2019appareils jug\u00e9s culturellement d\u00e9suets, bien que parfaitement fonctionnels, n\u2019est pas innocente. Elle vise \u00e0 questionner notre relation \u00e0 la temporalit\u00e9 et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cologie des technologies. En invoquant l\u2019omnipr\u00e9sence et l\u2019importance culturelle du iPhone, l\u2019installation remet en question notre relation personnelle au statut social et \u00e0 l\u2019obsolescence, mais aussi \u00e0 la biosurveillance et \u00e0 l\u2019autorepr\u00e9sentation.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/hexagram.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/04-CR-04b-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18740\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><sup>D\u00e9tail de l\u2019\u0153uvre Pan\u00e9goptique (2024). Ces images sont ensuite envoy\u00e9es au \u00ab\u2009cerveau\u2009\u00bb du syst\u00e8me qui les transforme en mod\u00e8les 3D puis les combine. La surface du portrait ainsi g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 est compos\u00e9e de vagues tir\u00e9es des deux matrices de pixels. Sa topologie oscille entre celles des deux visages capt\u00e9s. Les couleurs et textures du faci\u00e8s peuvent donc \u00eatre ainsi appliqu\u00e9es \u00e0 la forme d\u2019un autre visage. Les treize derniers de ces portraits flottent au-dessus de l\u2019installation, sur l\u2019\u00e9cran de vieux iPhone r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9s. Vu leur \u00e2ge et leur nature analogique, ceux-ci d\u00e9forment significativement le signal num\u00e9rique. C\u2019est un rappel que les technologies filtrent, cadrent et transforment toujours le contenu, qu\u2019elles soient num\u00e9riques ou non. Cette approche \u00ab\u2009m\u00e9diarch\u00e9ologique\u2009\u00bb interroge notre rapport aux mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9s technologiques obsol\u00e8tes tout en nous invitant \u00e0 r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cologie, voire \u00e0 la g\u00e9ologie, des technologies. L\u2019un des th\u00e8mes r\u00e9currents de son travail est le miroitement du corps des visiteurs.
