This call for contributions is the gateway to the DEMO component of the Hexagram Network's programming at UQAM.
It comprises the two following streams:

  • Residency Program
  • Organization of a group activity
General Terms and Conditions
  • The support offered by Hexagram consists of equipment loans, space preparation and basic technical assistance. It does not include ongoing support from staff. Additional costs for intensive training or coaching will be charged to applicants according to the salary rates effective at UQAM personnel.
  • Needs should be assessed and planned as much as possible with the help of the technical coordinator before an application is submitted.

RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Specific goals of this stream

  • Support the development of research-creation projects for co-investigator members, collaborators and students, particularly for projects in their experimentation, implementation, dissemination and documentation phases.
  • Optimize the sharing of resources available at the UQAM site amongst members of the Network.
  • Recognize and promote the research-creation activities of the Hexagram network and its site at UQAM.

Eligibility criteria

  • The research-creation projects are proposed by one or more co-investigator members, collaborators or students and align with Hexagram's mission and programming.
  • Projects submitted by students or collaborators members of Hexagram must be supervised by a co- investigator of the Network (click here to see the list).
  • Student members' projects are eligible only if conducted during the research period of their program of study.
  • The application form must be submitted before the deadline by the co-investigator member supervising the residency.

Criteria for project assessment

  • Relevance in relation to Hexagram's mission and programming.
  • The completeness, consistency and clarity of the proposal and project needs.
  • Feasibility according to the proposed timeline, skills involved, resources requested, and funding or support already obtained towards the project.
  • The number of co-investigator members, collaborators and students involved.
  • The impact and outreach of the project in the academic or cultural milieu.
  • The projects’ contribution to promote a research and creation environment of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Specific terms and conditions

  • The duration of residencies is of two consecutive weeks during the semester when the call is launched (12 consecutive days from the first Monday to the second Friday).
  • The same project may be submitted to more than one call for residency in subsequent semesters, providing that terms and conditions of previous residencies were consistently met. The application form for additional residencies pertaining to one project must include a report of the projects’ progress.
  • An application may also be submitted in advance for the two semesters following the current call if a production deadline or presentation activity has already been confirmed in writing (this confirmation must be attached to the form).
  • In order to manage the workload of technical staff, occupancy of premises and sharing of equipment, the residency’s schedule will be determined by coordinators, taking into account as much as possible the dates proposed by applicants.
  • Residencies can lead to the design, organization, and logistical planning of an in situ or off-site activity with technical staff (e.g. filming, shows, exhibitions, concerts, etc.).
  • Each residency should conclude with a public presentation or outreach activity to report on the results or the work process, which may be organized in conjunction with the coordinator. The total amount of $500 will be offered to the researchers / student-researcher at the outcome of this public presentation.

ORGANIZATION OF A GROUP ACTIVITY

Specific goals of this stream
  • Support group activities between co-investigator members, collaborators and students such as symposia, conferences, research meetings, concerts, shows, exhibitions, workshops, seminars, training, etc.
  • Optimize the sharing of resources available at the UQAM site.
  • Promote research-creation activities of the Hexagram Network and its site at UQAM by supporting opportunities for members to meet with the academic and cultural communities, as well as the general public.
Eligibility criteria
  • Applications are for research-creation activities by one or more co-investigator members, collaborators or students. Proposed activities must align with Hexagram's mission and programming.
  • Projects submitted by student members or collaborators must be supervised by a co-investigator member of Hexagram and submitted before the deadline.
Criteria for the assessment of the proposed activity
  • Relevance in relation to Hexagram's mission and programming.
  • Feasibility according to the proposed timeline, skills involved, resources requested, and funding or support already obtained towards the activity.
  • The coherence and clarity of the request.
  • The number of co-investigator members, collaborators and students involved.
  • The impact and outreach of the project in the academic or cultural milieu.
  • The regional, national or international scope of the activity.
  • The activity’s contribution to promote a research and creation environment of equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Group activities will have priority over residencies when scheduling.

Specific terms and conditions

  • The duration of a proposed group activity is from one to five consecutive days.
