Distinguished Speaker 7 - Krzysztof Wodiczko

«Projections and instruments»

Public Lecture
August 1, 2014, 6:30 – 8pm
Phi Centre
Free admission

A unique opportunity to experience the installations of a major international figure in public art, here in Montreal.
Krzysztof Wodiczko’s conference will address themes from his recent projects, among them war, conflict, trauma, injustice and social displacement through the use of projections and other media-based interventions.

Wodiczko’s public projections give life to monuments and public buildings using images of expressive physical movement, paired with the voices of marginalized citizens: the homeless, immigrants, survivors of domestic violence, war veterans. He is also the author of Vehicles and Instruments, a project conceived and orchestrated with the homeless to manifest their struggle to regain a voice and presence in public space. Wodiczko has won the Hiroshima Art Prize in 1998 of his contribution as an international artist supporting peace, and has represented Canada and Poland in the Venice Biennale. He is Professor of Art, Design, and the Public Domain at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He lives and works in New York, Boston, and Warsaw.
