Invitation de Treva Michelle Legassie
La galerie Arts Visuels Émergents (AVE) cherche des artistes travaillant avec des nouveaux médias pour l’exposition Femynynytees, co-commissariée par les doctorantes en Communication Renata Azevedo Moreira (UdeM) et Treva Michelle Legassie (Concordia). Femynynytees explorera le pouvoir radical de la féminité et sera à l’affiche entre le 5 juillet et le 19 août 2018. Nous sommes intéressées par des œuvres qui explorent, visuellement ou thématiquement, les connotations controversées, absurdes, queer et/ou maléfiques de tout ce qui est féminin, et donc pas exclusivement lié à des femmes.
Le féminin, établi historiquement comme une contrepartie inférieure au masculin, a été identifié de façon récurrente aux caractères malicieux, séducteurs, lascifs, méfiants et vengeurs. Nous recherchons des travaux en arts médiatiques qui suggèrent des possibilités de reformulation de ces notions stéréotypées, célébrant ainsi les potentialités féminines qui sont restées longuement marginalisées. Femynynytees questionne les manières de manipuler les forces du mal, de la destruction et de la tentation pour réclamer, redéfinir et réinventer la notion même de féminité.
Nous encourageons des œuvres qui accueillent toutes formes et types de corps féminins : queer, animal, humain et non-humain. Cela nous permettra d’explorer et d’exploser les notions de féminin dans toutes leurs expressions à la fois bizarres, gênantes et non-conventionnelles. L’exposition Femynynytees aura lieu à la galerie AVE et inclura, dans son expographie, des textes informatifs expérimentaux faisant partie du terrain de recherche de la thèse de Doctorat de Renata Azevedo Moreira.

The gallery Arts Visuels Émergents (AVE) is seeking proposals from artists working in new media for a special exhibition, Femynynytees, co-curated by Communications PhD students Renata Azevedo Moreira (UdeM) and Treva Michelle Legassie (Concordia). Femynynytees will explore the radical power of femininity. The exhibition will run from July 5th to August 29th 2018. We are interested in work that visually and/or thematically embraces and reclaims the controversial, absurd, queer and/or evil connotations of the feminine, and not necessarily female.
The feminine, established as a secondary, and thus inferior, counterpart to the masculine, has historically been inscribed as mischievous, seductive, lascivious, mistrustful and vengeful. We are looking for new media-based works that propose possibilities for reimagining these stereotypical notions as positive traits, celebrating the formerly marginalized potentials of the feminine. Femynynytees will question how can we manipulate the forces of evil, destruction and temptation, to which the feminine has been bound, in order to reclaim the very notion of womanliness?
We encourage work that embraces all forms and types of feminine bodies; queer, animal, human and nonhuman, in order to explore and explode notions of the feminine in all its creepy and non-traditional representations and expressions. The exhibition Femynynytees will take place at the gallery Arts Visuels Émergents and will include experimental explanatory texts and exhibition statements as part of the fieldwork for Renata Moreira’s PhD thesis.
