Among the highlights of Quebec’s presence at ISEA 2025, the ELEKTRA Virtual Museum (EVM) stood out as a major experience. Before this international showcase, the foundations of the virtual museum were laid during residencies supported by Hexagram, a research-creation network in arts, culture, and technology.
Driven by a shared vision, the Hexagram Network and ELEKTRA have maintained a fruitful collaboration for nearly twenty years. This partnership has fostered the sharing of infrastructure and resources for the dissemination and production of digital art research. The Virtual Museum is the latest result of this cooperation: a flagship project offering a physical and immersive 3D experience, featuring works by nine Quebec artists.
The EVM generated excitement among both the public and professionals during its presentation in Seoul, South Korea, at ISEA – the International Symposium of Electronic/Emerging Art this past May. Visitors explored a five-story virtual exhibition space — either solo or with others — using a virtual reality headset. An elevator allowed movement between floors, sometimes turning the experience into a spontaneous and playful social moment when multiple visitors chose to explore the exhibition together.
« There are two kinds of people in the world: those who have experienced ELEKTRA Virtual Museum, and those who have not.
The virtual museum is going to be a BIG HIT!! »
— Soh Yeong Roh, directrice du Centre d’art Nabi (Corée)
Hexagram began supporting the development of this innovative project as early as 2023. This support was crucial in bringing the EVM to life, which will be presented in Montreal from May 19 to 22 at the Agora of the Cœur des sciences at UQAM, as part of the ELEKTRA 2025 Festival. This international recognition confirms Quebec’s essential role in the emerging digital art landscape and highlights Hexagram’s role as one of its key incubators.
