Summary

Nous sommes tous des astronautes (NSTDA) presents its second supplement. Researchers, artists, philosophers, and professors rethink virtual reality in the world and in the arts.

On February 14, 2025, five researchers, artists, philosophers, and professors in the fields of art, game design, and architecture came together to reflect on the modes of articulation that typically frame the experience of virtual reality. From this study day emerged five texts that shift the technological mindset, as well as notions of reality and virtuality, toward thought experiments and certain hallucinatory phenomena. The computational is rendered poetic through discussions of the aura of the artwork, the digital shadow, and the impact of their potentialities on users’ affects.

Participants in this study day included Jonathan Cantin-Demers, Vincent Isabel, Yan May, Amélie Hébert, Sarah‑Ève Tremblay, and Simon Tremblay, all master’s students in visual arts.
