Media-based research-creation in communications is distinguished by its unique articulation between artistic creation and the production of knowledge.

This text explores its development from the 1980s at the Faculty of Communication at UQAM. It highlights the specificities of media creation, which aims to generate knowledge inherent to media practices while engaging in a reflective process.

This approach contrasts with the objectives of artistic and media creation and proposes guidelines to steer research-creation within communication studies, while also emphasizing the contributions of UQAM and its key figures to the growth of this field.
