A 78 000$ GRANT AWARDED FOR THE PROJECT TOWARDS DIGITAL RESEARCH-CREATION JOINTLY LED BY HEXAGRAM, CÉGEP DU VIEUX-MONTRÉAL, CÉGEP SAINT-LAURENT AND ARTENSO
The Pôle montréalais d’enseignement supérieur en intelligence artificielle (PIA) has awarded a 2-year $78,000 grant to Réseau Hexagram and its partners: Cégep du Vieux-Montréal, Cégep de Saint-Laurent and Artenso for their joint project proposal in response to the call launched by the PIA last December. The laureate project is titled Towards Digital Research-Creation: Strategic action plan to promote programs of study and increase diversity.
Running from June 2023 to April 2025, the project Towards Digital Research-Creation aims to implement strategies that will contribute to improve the fluidity of education paths leading to research and digital creation. The project will include networking and consultation activities with professors and students from Cégep de Saint-Laurent, Cégep du Vieux-Montréal and the eight partner universities of the Hexagram Network. It will lead to a strategic action plan to identify and promote programs in artistic and scientific fields leading to research-creation, and to diversify the student population accessing these programs.
The contribution from PIA will allow achieving the two core goals of this project:
- Foster research-creation exchanges between college and university professors and students and promote access to digital research-creation practice environments and programs, namely through workshops and residencies for students, as well as through consultation meetings between professors and students from colleges and universities.
- Promote gender and social class diversity in enrolment as well as retention of persons from these social groups in 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle programs of study in digital creation and research-creation. To achieve this, the partner organizations in this project will deploy surveys to assess the intentions and motivations of student cohorts for pursuing programs in these fields of study.
This project will forge links between universities and the two Montreal CEGEPs serving students from visible minorities, ethnic and allophone groups, and will promote programs of study and pathways leading to the professionalization of artists, creators and researchers in technical, cultural and academic fields. It will involve a large number of students and teachers: 190 students and 45 teachers from 38 art and research programs at Hexagram’s partner universities, students and teachers from Music, Visual Arts, Dance and Theatre programs at Cégep de Saint-Laurent, and students and teachers from the Communications, Arts and Graphic Communications, and Dance programs at Cégep du Vieux-Montréal.
