 A radio series presenting Hexagram researchers in 1-hour interview format. Hexa_Wave objective is to promote Hexagram research within the scientific community and to the general public. • Episode 1 – Sandeep Bhagwati

  PRESENTATION
  Sandeep Bhagwati is a professor at Concordia University where he directs matralab, a space of inter-x arts dedicated to using interdisciplinary art practice to bridge the gap between emerging art forms and their aesthetic reflection. He is also a composer, conductor, performer, visual artist and writer.

  In this interview, he discusses the foundation of his interdisciplinary practice, the Native Alien comprovisation software, inter-traditional aesthetics in music (from Canada to India via Germany) and the Body Suit Score, a vibro-tactile suit for directing musicians.

  PRESENTATION
  Paul Landon is a professor at UQAM’s École des arts visuels et médiatiques and an artist working with video, photography and installation. Through his artistic practice, he explores the places where his travels and steps take him. His work reflects upon the spatio-temporal structures of the modern city as they are experiences in everyday life.

  In this interview, he talks about his research-creation process, the tension between private and public spaces as an inspiration and exploring decay and the passage of time through creation.

• Episode 3 – Jason Lewis

  PRESENTATION
  Jason Lewis is a professor at Concordia University where he directs Obx Labs, a Laboratory for Experimental Media. He is also co-primary investigator of Aboriginal Territories in Cyberspace (AbTeC) and primary investigator of Initiative for Indigenous Futures, a partnership of universities and community organizations dedicated to developing multiple visions of Indigenous peoples tomorrow.

  In this interview, he discusses his journey towards Aboriginal community-based research-creation, promoting Aboriginal culture through video game design with Aboriginal youth and experimenting with digital poetry.

• Episode 4 – François-Joseph Lapointe

  
  PRESENTATION
  François-Joseph Lapointe is a professor at Université de Montréal where he directs the Laboratoire d’écologie moléculaire et d’évolution. A paradisciplinary artist-researcher, he also holds a PhD in Études et pratiques des arts (UQAM) through which he developed choréogénétique, or the art of dancing DNA.

  In this interview, he discusses the elimination of the choreographer by dancing his own DNA, combining arts and sciences through paradisciplinarity and studying the human microbiome in a performative perspective.

• Episode 5 – Louise Poissant

  
  PRESENTATION
  Until recently, Louise Poissant was the Dean of Faculté des arts at UQAM and a member of Hexagram. Since October 1, 2015, she is the Scientific Director of Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC). She is also known for her theoretical contribution, especially in the field of media arts.

  In this interview, she discusses the origins of the Dictionnaire des arts médiatiques, her transition into her new role and the many research-creation related reflexions currently underway at FRQSC.

  Louis Patrick Leroux is a playwright, director, and scholar who holds a joint appointment in both departments of English and French Studies at Concordia University. His academic research covers modern and contemporary theatre, self-representation in drama, and contemporary circus, among other themes.

  PRESENTATION
  Barbara Clausen is a curator and professor of performance history and theory at UQAM. Since 2000, she has written extensively on the mediation and historization of performance art and curatorial practices. She has also curated numerous exhibitions and performance events in Canada, North America and Europe.

  In this interview, she talks about her journey towards performance study, the tension between performance and its documentation and her role as a curator for Joan Jonas’s first Canadian retrospective at DHC/ART in 2016.

• Episode 11 – Armando Menicacci

  PRESENTATION
  Armando Menicacci is a professor at UQAM’s Département de danse. He is also a choreographer, musicologist, interdisciplinary artist and curator. Before settling in Montreal, he founded Médiadanse, which was then the technological centre of the Département de danse of Université Paris 8.

  In this interview, he discusses his transition from music to dance, dancing corporeality, his first steps in research-creation through a combination of dance and digital and some of his significant creations so far.
